The Scotts Valley Library is hosting an author talk with Craig S. Harwood on Saturday, March 7 from 1–3pm in the Fireside Room, where he’ll discuss his latest book, Bridget’s Gambit: A Saga of Family Enterprise in Gold Rush California.
The historical biography chronicles the life of a bold matriarch who, alongside her daughters, built a formidable entrepreneurial force during one of California’s most transformative eras. At a time when women had little standing in business or public life, Bridget and her family refused to be sidelined — breaking barriers and leaving a lasting mark on the young state’s commercial landscape.
Harwood will be on hand to discuss the research behind the book, share stories from his writing journey, and answer questions from the audience. Whether you’re a history buff, a lover of strong female protagonists, or simply curious about California’s past, this is a talk worth attending.
Registration is encouraged but walk-ins are welcome. The event is free and open to the public, presented in partnership with the Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries – Scotts Valley.
When: Saturday, March 7 | 1:00 – 3:00pm Where: Scotts Valley Library, Fireside Room
