The Aptos Library Friends are pleased to present a new photography exhibit by Mary Altier, on display now through September in the library’s gallery space.
Over the last forty years, Mary Altier has visited 114 countries across six continents with a singular goal: documenting the cultures of the world. While she photographs everything she encounters, she’s especially drawn to remote places and the people who call them home, resulting in the striking environmental portraiture she’s known for. She’s also energized by traditional cultural festivals, and those vibrant, colorful images make up a significant part of her body of work.
Altier’s photographs have been exhibited throughout Northern California, and her images and travel writing have been featured in numerous national and international publications. She has studied under many renowned photographers over the years, including participating in the very last workshop Ansel Adams taught before his death.
When she isn’t traveling the globe with her camera, Mary and her husband, John Walker, call La Selva Beach home.
