Do you remember how you learned to read?
Maybe it was a parent’s lap and the same picture book, night after night. Maybe it was a teacher who noticed you were struggling, or a cereal box, a comic book, or a library card that felt like a key. Maybe reading came easily. Maybe it came much later than you wanted it to, or you’re still working at it today.
However it happened, you have a reading story, and we would love to hear it.
Your story could be shared at the Branciforte Library
The Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries, Branciforte, are collecting stories from our community through the beginning of December. Santa Cruz Public Libraries and literacy advocate Megan Grenier are partners in the project.
Ten stories will be selected and shared at the Branciforte Library in February. You don’t need to be a writer or have a dramatic tale to tell. Small, ordinary memories count.
Three ways to share your story
Choose whichever way feels most comfortable:
- Talk it through. Set up an interview and tell your story out loud. Call or text 831-334-5500, or email Megan at megangrenier@literacy-advocate.com.
- Answer a few questions. Ask Megan to send you the questions, then email your answers back.
- Write it yourself. Put your memories into a short narrative and email it to Megan.
Add your voice by early December
Stories are being collected through the beginning of December, so now is the time to start remembering. Every reader’s path is different, and yours may be the one that encourages someone else.
