Stop by the La Selva Beach Library this month to see “Prints on Exhibit,” a striking new show by Santa Cruz printmaker Andree LeBourveau, on display now through July.
A lifelong Santa Cruz resident, Andree brings a deeply personal connection to this exhibit. She works at Cabrillo College in the art department and in the library’s Technical Services department, cataloging books and materials — and that love of libraries shines through in her work.
In her own words:
“I have a great love for libraries, books with so much information at one’s fingertips. They are special places for learning and community gathering. I was born and raised in Santa Cruz and have spent many afternoons in the library throughout my life.”
With 25 years of printmaking experience, Andree works across several media including serigraphy (screen printing), gelli printing, and monotype. Her source material comes from her own photographs, drawings, and plants from her garden. Her most recent technique uses Gelli plates, which let her work directly with plants to capture their silhouettes and the intricate detail of their undersides.
The theme of this show centers on books, correspondence, and plants. Several pieces are collages made from old withdrawn library books combined with Andree’s handmade marbled papers — a nod to the centuries-old tradition of using marbled paper for book covers and endpapers.
Don’t miss this beautiful, locally-made exhibit celebrating books, nature, and community.
